Dear Friends and of Peace Corps Group leaders,
We currently managed the tax-exempt nonprofit that administers Peace Corps Wiki (PCW) and Peace Corps Journals (PCJ). We are writing to recruit part-time administrators to assist us in managing these
important websites.
The two websites receive upwards of eight thousand of visits by Peace Corps Volunteers and the public daily. We are assisting applicantslearn more about the placement process by providing a staging timeline and a placement calculator among other tools. PCJ actively crawls the internet and has cataloged over a half million blog entries, photos, videos and other media related to PC service into the world’s largest PC related search-able database. These websites, designed and operated by Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) with no government funding or control and no affiliation with the National Peace Corps Association, provide the transparency called for by President Obama of all government agencies, enabling potential Peace Corps Volunteers,
the Congress, and the public timely factual information and insights into the agency’s operations and the service of Volunteers. The websites enable applicants to learn about the practical realities and benefits of Peace Corps service.
We invite applications by PCVs and RPCVs to join us in monitoring of the activity on these sites as part-time administrators. One hour a week and four hours per month is the approximate workload we request for administrators. We ask those who will assume these responsibilities to serve in this role for at least one month during a year. Serving an administrator offers an opportunity to promote work conducted during Peace Corps service as well as the work that continues to be carried out by affiliate groups.
In addition, we invite these administrators to work with us as we managed a portfolio of Freedom of Information Act requests that seeks to increase the transparency of the Peace Corps. Over the medium term, we seek to set up a chat rooms on these websites that will facilitate real-time exchange of information and views among PCVs and RPCVs. We will soon launch a major fund raising drive to fund this expansion. The FOIA requests that we have filed to date have yielded us with vital information about early termination rates, the results (including country-by-country results) of the 2008 Peace Corps survey of the Volunteers, lists of staff, consultants, pending and completed FOIA requests, political appointees, information on volunteers that have died in service throughout agency history, agency funding of the National Peace Corps Association, and information about on the Peace Corps Digital library.
Please submit a statement of your interest and experience with websites to us at the addresses below. We look forward to expanding and strengthening these websites and the Peace Corps.
